Presented for the first time anywhere in the world, the renowned and closely guarded Carmen Thyssen Collection makes its debut in Bologna, at Palazzo Albergati, with over 100 masterpieces.
From 9 October 2026, the great masters of the twentieth century — from Gaudí (marking the centenary of his death this year) to Dalí, including Picasso, Miró, Rusiñol, Mir, Nonell, Togores, Torres-García, Julio González, and many other artists, some of whose works have never before been exhibited in Italy — take us on a journey through a remarkable era: Barcelona at the beginning of the twentieth century, a vibrant city where modern art was born.
Curated by Jordi Falgàs, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to admire an extensive selection of works that will soon become part of the permanent collection of the future Museu Carmen Thyssen Barcelona.
An exhibition filled with charm and poetry, inviting visitors to dream of Barcelona’s cafés, wander through the Mediterranean light, and discover the creative energy of one of the most extraordinary periods in art history.
Beyond its exceptional aesthetic appeal, the exhibition is also an invitation to discovery: an exploration of a unique and unrepeatable period spanning the late nineteenth century to the 1930s, when Barcelona became a meeting point for some of the greatest artists and architects of the time.
Some were born in the city itself, while others arrived from elsewhere in Spain, Europe, or South America. All maintained a lively dialogue with Paris and helped lay the foundations for the great artistic revolution that would give rise to the avant-garde movements of the twentieth century, from Cubism to Surrealism.
