For the first time in Naples, the magical poetics of Marc Chagall told through the exhibition of 150 works at the Basilica of Pietrasanta – Lapis Museum of Naples from February 15th to June 30th 2019. From February 15th, in the extraordinary setting of the Basilica of Pietrasanta – Lapis Museum of Naples, an exhibition dedicated to the great Russian artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) will be hosted.

The exhibition tells the life, the work and the feeling of Chagall for his always beloved wife Bella, through the exhibition of 150 works including paintings, drawings, watercolors and engravings. A system of rare and extraordinary works, coming from private collections and thus difficult to access for the general public.

Curated by Dolores Duràn Ucar, the exhibition tells the story of the artist’s world of wonder and wonder. In the works coexist memories of childhood, fairy tales, poetry, religion and war, a universe of brightly colored dreams, of intense nuances that give life to landscapes populated by characters, real or imaginary, that crowd into the artist’s imagination.
Works that reproduce an imaginary dream in which it is difficult to discern the boundary between reality and dream.

The exhibition is organized and generated by the Arthemisia Group, which after its success in Naples with the Escher exhibition, affirms its confidence in the Neapolitan city also investing in the extraordinary Basilica of Pietrasanta.

The exhibition avails itself of the patronage of the Municipality of Naples, is under the aegis of the Archdiocese of Naples, and in harmony with the San Luigi section of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy, School of Higher Education in Art and Theology, of the Rectorate of the Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore in Pietrasanta and of the Associazione Pietrasanta Polo Culturale ONLUS.
